Preferred builder announced for Bill Fulton Bridge duplication in QLD

The contract for the $34.2 million Bill Fulton Bridge duplication on Cairns Western Arterial Road has been awarded and construction is on track to begin in November. The preferred builder for this project is a joint venture comprising of Albem Operations and Highway Construction.

According to Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure Jackie Trad, this project is being prioritised by the Palaszczuk Government.

“Duplicating the Bill Fulton Bridge will improve safety and traffic flow for the 30,000 commuters, transport operators and tourists who use this route every day.

“The project is funded by the Palaszczuk Government’s $180 million Significant Regional Infrastructure Projects Program (SRIPP) and construction is on track to begin in November this year,” Ms Trad said.

This project will involve the construction of a new 120-metre bridging as well as the duplication of 700 metres of Cairns Western Arterial Road – between Brinsmead Road and Redlynch Connection Road – and signalisation of the Brinsmead Road intersection. Craig Crawford, Member for Barron River, said that up to 97 jobs will be supported during the construction phase of the project.

“This will considerably improve safety and traffic flow by removing a notorious ‘pinch-point’ on one of Cairns’ key arterial roads,” Mr Crawford said.
