Byrnecut Australia has been appointed by WPG Resources as the contractor of choice for the Challenger Gold Project in South Australia. A Letter of Intent for a new mining contract has been issued to Byrnecut and the company has begun mobilisation activities on site.

Byrnecut will be responsible for all underground mining activity at the Challenger mine starting 8 August 2017.

“We welcome Byrnecut back to our operation and look forward to delivering on our mining plan,” WPG Executive Chairman Bob Duffin said.

Rehabilitation works at the bottom of Challenger’s Jumbuck Decline has been completed and development towards the next production level at the site re-started earlier in July 2017.

This is the first step in the Challenger Deeps’ development to becoming a new production area. The next phase of drilling activities on site is expected to commence in August 2017 and first stoping is set to begin later in the year.

The Challenger Gold Project is located approximately 250 kilometres north of Ceduna and 730 kilometres north-west of Adelaide.
