RCR Tomlinson has been contracted to delivery a primary crusher and overland conveyor system at Rio Tinto's Silvergrass East mine for its Pilbara iron ore operations in Western Australia.
The contract, valued at over $120 million, is one of the largest on offer for the final stage of the Silvergrass iron ore development, and will see RCR undertake engineering, procurement and construction of a new primary crusher, 9km of overland conveyor and associated 33kV power line.
RCR has already picked up work with Rio's Western Australian iron ore division, after securing a $35 million contract in May for the construction and comissioning of Rio's Cape Lambert Power Station.

RCR Managing Director & CEO, Dr Paul Dalgleish said the Silvergrass contract award "demonstrates that RCR is certainly leading the iron ore processing industry and is a result of our innovative approach to cost competitive solutions. This win, when added to recent successful projects and new contract awards, firmly places RCR as a market leader in the engineering, procurement and construction of mineral processing plants in the mining and minerals sector.”
“Our design was innovative and provide s Rio Tinto with a solution that uses capital efficiently. We look forward to delivering this important turnkey project for Rio Tinto."
The final phase of the Silvergrass development will replace the road haulage used in the NIT projects, using the crusher and conveyor to connect the Silvergrass mining area to the existing processing facilities at Rio's nearby Nammuldi operations.
