The $1.162 billion Gateway Upgrade North project has awarded its winning tenderer. With over 80,000 drivers using the northern section of the Gateway Motorway per day, the major infrastructure upgrade will fix one of Queensland's most congested and important motorways.
The preferred plan includes widening an 11 kilometre section of the motorway from four to six lanes between Nudgee and Bracken Ridge, an upgrade of the Nudgee Road interchange and widening the Deagon Deviation to two lanes in each direction. Not only will the upgrade deliver travel time savings for drivers, it will generate a vast number of jobs over the life of the project. It couldn’t have come at a better time, when jobs and job security are more important than ever.
- Joint Media Release from Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs and Queensland Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports Mark Bailey.
When completed in late 2018, the upgrade will enhance road safety and improve the movement of freight along the national road network. The Australian Government has committed up to $929.58 million and the Queensland Government $232.42 million to the project.
The successful candidate for design and construction
Chosen from a field of high-quality tenderers, Lend Lease Engineering Pty Ltd has been chosen to deliver the project.
The global construction and development company edged out rivals Leighton Contractors and the NorthLink joint venture, comprised of Seymour Whyte Constructions, Fulton Hogan, Ferrovial Agroman, ARUP and Parsons Brinckerhoff, which were also short-listed for the project last November.
In regards to property developments, the company has faith in a promising infrastructure line up.
We remain positive on the pipeline of infrastructure projects in Australia with circa $20 billion of work expected to be tendered in the next two years.

Managing extensive quoting needs with PlantMiner
In mid January, PlantMiner assisted Lend Lease by providing rates to include in their tender submission for the Gateway Upgrade North project.
With $1.162 billion allocated by the Australian and Queensland Governments, the project sought close to 50 pieces of equipment including compactors, dozers, excavators, graders, loaders, rollers, articulated dump trucks, water carts and more.
This gave some 84 PlantMiner suppliers the opportunity to quote on a three year hire contract.
